The Art of Asking, what a fantastic book about the true power of not being afraid to ask for what you need. Amanda had an exciting journey. Rock star, crowdfunding pioneer, and TED speaker Amanda Palmer knows all about asking. Performing as a living statue in a wedding dress, she wordlessly asked thousands of passersby for their dollars. As a musician and artist, Amanda was never afraid to ask her audience and fans for help. She would often sleep on their couch as she was touring. When Amanda decided to leave her record label to start her venture and album, it led to the world’s most extensive music Kickstarter campaign. It was such a success; she never thought asking for help would ever lead to this. In her book, she shared how she was celebrated and attacked at the same time about our willingness to ask for help. Upon learning about what she can and cannot ask, Amanda discovered that she wasn’t the only person in the world who gets paralyzed when it comes to asking for help. In this book she shares a lot of stories about her personal life as she navigates the boundaries of asking not only for herself but also about others. Throughout this book, Amanda share how she discovers the emotional, philosophical, and practical aspects of THE ART OF ASKING.

My thoughts

I appreciated this book for what it was. Amanda is what I would label as an unorthodox person, and reading about her story, life, and how she navigated the challenges she faced; was inspiring, and I truly learned a lot from her book. I liked Amanda’s book because she shared her thought process about navigating what she was going through. This book got me rethinking that I genuinely need to start asking for more help in my life and not be afraid of doing so. When you ask for help, all you can get when you think about it is more or none of it, which brings you back to square one. This book is motivating and inspiring towards steering your life in the right direction. As soon as I started reading it, I wanted to read more of it until completion. Not many books can grasp my attention the way this one did, which means it is indeed perfect. I don’t want to tell you much more because you have to read it for yourself to see.
